About Me
Native to Maryland, I came to Colorado for a visit 25 years ago and forgot to leave!! My philosophy in the formation of Equinox Pets is a combination of the love that Coloradans have for their animals, combined with my passionate curiosity about behavioral animal science and psychology in dog training. Equinox Pets offers dog training, pet sitting, and walking with an emphasis on training. My goal is that you will leave my website with the understanding that Equinox Pets is not just my business, but is the result of many years of deep love and understanding of working with dogs. I want you to become a member of the Equinox Pets family!
I have been an animal advocate and lover of animals from a young age. My mother was a dog trainer who volunteered for our local SPCA to help dog owners resolve behavioral issues with their pets so they would not end up being surrendered to the Shelter. At that time, many counties in Maryland had "kill shelters". Aggressive or behaviorally challenged dogs did not have much of a chance of being adopted. I would tag along on many of the non-aggressive training cases she would go on and watch intently. My love, fascination, and intuition for dogs grew with each visit. We would visit a wolf sanctuary in the mountains of Western Maryland often. My Mom wanted me to learn respect for these beautiful creatures and observe how they had a sophisticated social hierarchy. I learned from the sanctuary that animals respond in kind to whatever energy you bring to them. Learning from an early age to BE STILL and observe has been of great benefit in dog training and modifying difficult behaviors in dogs.
Our childhood home was a menagerie of pets. We had cats, large and small dogs, guinea pigs, fish, and several ferrets. I loved them all! At a young age, I went to work for a family friend who owned an animal grooming salon. I learned to groom many breeds of dogs. More importantly, I learned the behaviors necessary to teach dogs so they are not fearful of their grooming visits.
I have learned that well-trained dogs become faithful family members, but the owners must commit and work on the training process in earnest.
Due to health challenges, I have had to overcome, I myself have a service dog who gives medical alerts. His name is Ludo and he is a very important part of my training practices when needed. He is the President of Public Relations I guess you might say, and an excellent role model for what a healthy-tempered dog looks like. I give written quotes and training plans prior to the start of training sessions and accept cash and credit cards for payment, but no checks. The pet sitting can be done in my home as I have plenty of designated indoor space, beds, toys, and a fenced backyard. I am licensed, bonded, and insured too. Face-to-face meet and greets are required prior to any pet sitting to see if your dog is socialized enough to be in my home comfortably. Meet and greets are necessary for dog-walking clients as well. The dog walks are done under my supervision by my staff.
Please contact me with any questions you might have. I look forward to working with you!
